Every year, on the first warm, rainy nights of spring, thousands of salamanders and frogs migrate to vernal pools and other wetlands to breed in a phenomenon known as "Big Night." Sadly, many are killed when they must cross roads. Join longtime Salamander Crossing Brigade coordinator Brett Amy Thelen to discover the magic of Big Night - and to learn how community scientists in New Hampshire and beyond are coming together to help migrating amphibians survive the most dangerous journey of their lives.

Brett Amy Thelen is the Science Director for the Harris Center for Conservation Education, where she bands saw-whet owls, counts butterflies, and coordinates their celebrated Salamander Crossing Brigade program. Before moving to New Hampshire, she conducted salt marsh restoration and kettle pond research at Cape Cod National Seashore, and served in AmeriCorps Cape Cod (Year Two!), based out of the Wellfleet house.
