Wellfleet Preservation Hall
Join us for a night with Grammy-nominated musician and songwriter, Reed Foehl featuring Putnam Murdock and Jeff Berlin on Friday, June 5th at 7pm.
Foehl writes songs like postcards from the long way home--weathered, honest, and quietly devastating. Rooted in American folk, his music carries the weight of loss, love and survival, told with a voice that sounds lived-in and unafraid. There's a grit in the stories, grace in the melodies, and a deep human tenderness running through it all.
Foehl now resides in the Green Mountains of Vermont and continues to tour across the globe. We are excited to welcome him back to Wellfleet Preservation Hall!

You, Me, and Harry: Celebrating the Music of Harry Chapin
Wellfleet Preservation Hall
Join us on June 11th at 7pm for an intimate concert celebrating the music of Harry Chapin and featuring Lou Antonucci. “You, Me, & Harry” is a solo concert experience that immerses audiences in the storytelling and song craft of Harry Chapin, blending beloved hits like “Taxi,” “Cat’s in the Cradle,” and many other Chapin fan favorites, with personal backstories and reflections for an intimate shared musical journey. The show has been acclaimed for capturing the spirit and humanity of Chapin’s music and his life while connecting deeply with both longtime fans and new listeners.
Featured in the show is a new musical adaptation of one of Harry’s early poems that had never been set to music. With special permission from the Chapin estate, Lou has transformed Harry’s heartfelt poem into a new release titled “Singing My Songs Alone” which is now available on all major streaming platforms. Framed within an evening celebrating Chapin’s music and storytelling, the June 11 performance becomes more than a concert - it is a release celebration, a tribute, and a shared live moment marking the next chapter in a continuing musical legacy. Harry Chapin believed "to act is to make a difference." You, Me, & Harry is more than a tribute to Harry’s music - it’s part of a movement to continue his lifelong fight against hunger. Join us in supporting WhyHunger, the organization Harry co-founded in 1975 to empower communities and solve poverty at its roots. Donations to WhyHunger will be accepted at this show! Author Talk: Stephen Orr
Wellfleet Public Library
The Gardener's Mindset
Stephen Orr has written about gardening for most of his decades-long career, and now, in The Gardener's Mindset, he helps readers to understand not just how to garden but how to think about it. Inspired by the great tradition of twentieth-century garden essay collections by writers such as Vita Sackville-West, Elizabeth Lawrence, and Henry Mitchell, Orr delves into his personal gardening journey, pulling trom the various gardens he and his husband created over the past decades. He remembers his first garden on a New York City rooftop, where he followed beginner's instinct to rearrange endlessly pots of old roses, herbs, perennials, and even trees. Later in Des Moines, the challenge of growing anything interesting in his shade-filled backyard led Orr to discover the beautiful patterns and colors of leafy lungworts and epimediums. And he shares how his current garden in Cape Cod is a work in progress and serves as his trial-and-error lab, where he is learning how to cultivate plants that can stay resilient in the face of dry sandy soil, dramatic coastal storms, and climate change. Alongside gorgeous photographs, Connecting with Nature through Plants and easy projects that range from cultivating a color scheme to building a wildlife habitat, The Gardener's Mindset will delight anyone interested in the analog pleasures of being outdoors.
Stephen Orr is the author of Tomorrow's Garden and The New American Herbal. The former editor-in-chief at Better Homes and Gardens, Orr was previously garden editor at Martha Stewart Living, House & Garden, and Domino magazines, and has written for the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. He has been a regularly featured gardening expert on The Early Show and Today and lectures extensively around the country. He lives with his husband in Truro and writes a garden column for the Provincetown Independent.

The Harvey Girls
1926: Charlotte Crowninshield was born into one of the finest Boston society families. Now she's on the run from a brutal husband, desperate to disappear into the wilds of the Southwest. Billie MacTavish is the oldest of nine children born to Scottish immigrants in Nebraska. She quit school in the sixth grade to help with her mother's washing and mending business, but even that isn't enough to keep the family afloat. Desperate, both women join the ranks of the Harvey Girls, waitresses who serve in America's first hospitality chain on the Santa Fe railroad. Hired on the same day, they share three things: a room, a heartfelt dislike of each other... and each has a secret that will certainly get them fired. Through twelve-hour days of training in Topeka, Kansas, they learn the fine art of service, pertecting their skills despite bouts of homesickness, fear of being discovered, and a run-in with the KKK When theyre sent to work at the luxurious El Tovar hotel at the Grand Canyon, the challenges only grow, as Billie struggles to hide her young age from would-be suitors, and Charlotte discovers the little-known dark side of the national park's history.
Juliette Fay is the bestselling author of eight novels, including 2023's The Half of It, 2021's Catch Us When We Fall, 2019's City of Flickering Light, and the 2016 USA TODAY bestseller The Tumbling Turner Sisters. A graduate of Boston College and Harvard University, she lives in Massachusetts.

Community Read of "Being with Dying: Cultivating Compassion and Fearlessness in the Presence of Death" (Part One)
Wellfleet Public Library
Presented by the Lily House
The Buddhist approach to death can be of great benefit to people of all backgrounds-as has been demonstrated by Joan Halifax's decades of work with the dying and their caregivers. A Zen priest and a world-renowned pioneer in care of the dying, Halifax has helped countless people face death with courage and trained caregivers in compassioante end-of-life care. In this book, Halifax offers lessons from dying people and caregivers, as well as guided meditations to help readers contemplate death without fear, develop a commitment to helping others, and transform suffering and resistance into courage. Her teachings affirm that we can open and contact our inner strength-and that we can help others who are suffering to do the same. Being with Dying is a source of wisdom for anyone who is facing their own death, caring for someone who is dying, or wishing to explore the transformative power of the dying process.
David Eure & Lee Adler Juneteenth Celebration
Wellfleet Preservation Hall
On Thursday, June 18th at 5pm, we invite you to celebrate Juneteenth with a very special performance. Through the genius of prominent Black Jazz composers and musicians, we will honor the historic significance of the day—the end of slavery in the United States. On this unique federal holiday, Americans remember the day in 1865, when Black residents of Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom. In our current political climate, we strongly feel the need for all Americans to embrace this essential history and recognize the ongoing importance of this day.

The Complex
In a sprawling complex in Delhi, the sons and daughters of SP Chopra, one of India's political architects, live together vying for influence in a family shaped by the great man's legacy. By the late 1970s, his descendants are scrambling to define their own futures in a still- young nation on the brink of transformation. Sachin Chopra leaves for America, with his bride Gita following not long after, as the newlyweds are eager to forge their own lives beyond the pressures of the family compound. Yet Delhi remains an inescapable force, one that keeps pulling them back, even as Gita is menaced by Sachin's predatory uncle, Laxman. A man of restless ambition, Laxman ascends through the ranks of a rising Hindu nationalist movement, caught between his political aspirations and his personal transgressions. Meanwhile, Vibha, his sister, tries to keep the peace and the reputation of the family intact even as she wrestles with her own exile. Equal parts brilliant family saga and piercing political drama, The Complex is a virtuosic novel of revenge and redemption, ambition and undoing, loyalty and love, by one of the most lauded voices in contemporary fiction.
Karan Mahajan is the author of The Association of Small Bombs, which was a finalist for the National Book Award, won the New York Public Library Young Lions Fiction Award, and was named one of the Ten Best Books of the Year by The New York Times Book Review. His debut novel, Family Planning, was a finalist for the Dylan Thomas Prize. He has been selected as one of Granta's Best Young American Novelists, and his writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, The New York Review of Books, and other venues. He is an associate professor of Literary Arts at Brown University.

Author Talk: Christopher C. Gorham
Wellfleet Public Library
Matisse at War
In 1940, with the Nazis sweeping through France, Henri Matisse found himself at a personal and artistic crossroads. His 42-year marriage had ended, he was gravely ill, and after decades at the forefront of modern art, he was beset by doubt. As scores of famous figures escaped the country, Matisse took refuge in Nice. By defiantly remaining, Matisse was a source of inspiration for his nation. While enemy agents and Resistance fighters played cat-and-mouse in the alleyways of Nice, Matisse's son, Jean, engaged in sabotage efforts with the Allies. In Paris, under the swastika, Matisse's estranged wife, Amélie, worked for the Communist underground. His beloved daughter, Marguerite, active in the French Resistance, was Matisse arrested and tortured by the Gestapo, sentenced to a concentration camp-and miraculously escaped when her train was halted by Allied bombs. His younger, son, Pierre helped Jewish artists escape to New York; even his teenage grandson risked his life by defying the Germans and their Vichy collaborators. Amidst this chaos, Matisse responded to the dark days of war by inventing a dazzling new paper technique that led to some of his most iconic pieces, including The Fall of Icarus, his profile of Charles De Gaulle, Monsieur Loyal, and his groundbreaking cut-out book, Jazz. His wartime works were acts of resistance, subtly patriotic and daringly new. Drawing on intimate letters and a multitude of other sources, Christopher C. Gorham's Matisse at War illuminates this momentous stage of Matisse's life as never before, revealing an artist on a journey of reinvention, wrenching meaning trom the suttering of war, and holding up the light of human imagination against the torch of fascism to create some of the most exciting work of his Christopher C. Gorham career, of the 20th century, and in the history of art.
Christopher C. Gorham is a lawyer, educator, and acclaimed author whose books include Matisse at War, winner of the 20th Annual Marfield Prize for Outstanding Writing of the Arts, and the Goodreads Choice Award finalist, The Confidante With degrees in history from Tufts University and the University of Michigan, he served on the editorial staff of the Syracuse Law Review while earning his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. His writing has appeared in The Washington Post and in online journals. He lives with his wife in Watertown and Chatham.

BOB DYLAN, JOHNNY CASH, AND THE FORGING OF AMERICAN MUSIC WITH MATT YORK
Wellfleet Public Library
Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan's mutual admiration and collaborating in the 1960s melded two styles of music that were, for the most part, stand alone entities: folk and country. Nowadays, we describe music that combines country and folk as Americana music, but that genre didn't exist back then. Dylan's 1969 album Nashville Skyline and appearance on the premiere of The Johnny Cash Show on ABC introduced him to a much twangier audience. Similarly, Cash's covering of a few Dylan songs and performing at the Newport Folk Festival opened the ears of many fans of folk music. Boston-based musician Matt York's latest concert program will use both songs and stories to illustrate the importance of these two titans of music.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Wellfleet Local Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Community Read of "Being with Dying: Cultivating Compassion and Fearlessness in the Presence of Death" (Part Two)
Wellfleet Public Library

Damaged Goods
When Brendan O'Shays estranged sister dies unexpectedly, he inherits something
unimaginable-custody of her frozen eggs. The discovery forces him, his wite Laura, and their teenage son Shannon to confront grief, loyalty, and the haunting question of what it means to bring a part of Cassie back to life. Set in New England during the 2008 financial crisis, Damaged Goods is a work of literary family fiction that explores the fault lines between ambition and compassion. As Brendan's success on Wall Street collides with the unraveling of his home life, his search for nurturing parents for the frozen eggs becomes a journey through love, forgiveness, and the fragile boundary between redemption and self- destruction. With the emotional depth of Ann Patchett, the realism of Richard Russo, and the moral tension of Ian McEwan, Damaged Goods is a family drama that lingers long after the last page.
Paul Scheufele is the author of Damaged Goods, a compelling debut novel that blends literary storytelling with the emotional depth of upmarket fiction. Before pursuing fiction full-time, he worked in finance, ultimately becoming a Managing Director at a global investment bank. He and his wife Susan split their time between Boston and Truro.

Author Talk: Alexandra Grabbe
Wellfleet Public Library
Seeing Joy
Beatrice, one of America's first career women, is still feisty at ninety-six. She lives with her daughter Alexandra, who has moved to Cape Cod to care for Bea while running a bed-and- breakfast out of their beloved old house. Like so many adult children caring for elderly parents, Alexandra must balance her new job as caregiver with her role as daughter - and it isn't easy. Bea is demanding and very verbal. Her mind is like a fireworks display on a drizzly Fourth of July-some shots fizzle out, but there are still bits of brilliance. After a knee ailment confines Bea to bed, it becomes clear her life will soon end. Convinced nothing comes next, Bea declares she doesn't want to die. When deceased friends and family start "visiting" Bea's bedroom, Alexandra wonders if her mom is hallucinating. Or could these visits have deeper meaning? Bea entertains her "guests" by hosting tea parties and reliving treasured memories. She reveals an unexpected kind of joy to Alexandra - a joy that brings peace and chases away the fear of death as they experience their final days together.
Alexandra Grabbe is the author of The Nansen Factor: Refugee Stories. She worked in journalism and broadcasting while raising three bicultural children in Paris, France. For a dozen years, she ran an eco-friendly Wellfleet bed-and-breakfast. Now living in Arlington, Massachusetts, she continues her life-long passion as an author. See Alexandragrabbe.com for links to her freelance writing.

The Morrill of the Stories: Old & Improved
Wellfleet Preservation Hall
For many years now, Dick Morrill, a local treasure and well-known raconteur, has been wowing audiences at Mosquito Story Slams and elsewhere with his true stories from a lifetime of hilarious and sometimes hair-raising adventures. Like the time he taxied a Boeing 707 through a blinding snowstorm, having had no previous experience doing such a thing even in good weather. And the time he figured out how to drive two cars at the same time. A stroke of genius! And you’ll never forget his completely original take on growing up Catholic.
As an actor, Dick was one of the founders of the Wellfleet Harbor Actors’ Theatre and has appeared on many local stages, including the Academy Playhouse, Cape Cod Repertory Theatre, the Harwich Junior Theater, the Harbor Stage, WHAT for Kids and, of course, WHAT. He was also a founding member of the Narrow Land String Band and will be joined this evening by fellow Narrow Land-er Stephen Russell, on guitar and vocals.
A splendid time is guaranteed for all. All ADULT audiences that is.

An Evening with Claudia Nygaard
Wellfleet Preservation Hall
At a previous show at Wellfleet Preservation Hall, Claudia Nygaard was heard to quip “if you really apply yourself look how far you can go… I started out a singing waitress at the Woodshed in Brewster, and now I’m all the way up here in Wellfleet!” While she has played in 48 of the 50 states and ten foreign countries since those days at “the Shed”, she can’t do a release tour for her new album “To Race The Wind” without a stop on the Cape, and she is delighted to be returning to Prez Hall for it!
Claudia is a mesmerizing storyteller and a cinematic lyricist who learned her craft as a staff songwriter for a publishing company on Nashville’s Music Row. She has won numerous songwriting awards including the Kerrville Folk Festival and Tumbleweed Music Festival songwriting competitions, and her songs are heartfelt, humorous, scrappy, and sensual. Her masterful storytelling extends to her performance as well, as she weaves her songs in between outlandish monologues with a quick wit and a complete lack of self-censorship. Combined with a powerful, resonant, and deeply emotive voice and daredevil’s vulnerability, Claudia’s performance is one you won’t want to miss!

The Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival is pleased to present a special performance by the prestigious Danish String Quartet, “one of the best quartets before the public today” (The Washington Post). The in-demand GRAMMY®-nominated ensemble performs classical repertoire as well as sophisticated arrangements of traditional Nordic folk tunes, which they have explored for over a decade; they’ve released three albums of this work, the last two both chosen as one of the top classical albums of the year by NPR and The New York Times.
The Boston Globe said, “Even by today’s high standards, [the Danish String Quartet] offers something very special.” These “excitingly aggressive rockers” (Los Angeles Times) with “rampaging energy” “seemed to sing, dance, strut, and glide their way through the music” (The New Yorker). In addition to Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet, the Danish String Quartet will perform original works based on Nordic folk music composed and arranged for them.

Outer Cape Dance Festival
Wellfleet Preservation Hall
Wednesday, August 5, 5:30: Ecstatic Dancing is a fun way for people of all body types (including those not usually comfortable dancing) to follow their own natural movement impulses by focusing inward on their bodies rather than outward on other participants. Facilitated by Patricia van Dijkhuizen, with live music by the beloved Outer Cape music ensemble, “Woof Woof Meow.”
Thursday and Friday, August 6 & 7: 7:30. Movimento 2026 will continue the body-mind-movement-art encounter that has populated and fueled our choreographic cauldron since 2015. The Project brings together local movement artists who, now working together for a decade, have supported and developed choreographic creativity that seeks to embody and share steps into our human condition and the movement it might recommend and necessitate. Contemporary choreography moves between and beyond specific dance languages, incorporating "alternative" bodies and diverse perspectives, to reflect on and reveal new and forgotten steps in our own path toward knowing, being, living & celebrating. Our task is choreographic transparency and innovation, connecting to the past while looking at the present and toward the future. We hope to draw our audience, figuratively and literally, into this shared dimension of body movement, conceptually transformed.
Dancing is a metaphor for living life, and as such needs to be explored in all possible spaces. As in past years, the audience will be invited to experience movement in various settings throughout Wellfleet Preservation Hall, from the front yard to the interior spaces and into the back garden.
Sunday, August 9: 12:30: Languages of Nature Workshop. In this workshop facilitated by Becky Burrill, we explore the primal and primary language of movement as living perceptual metaphor through improvisational movement-sound games. This is foundation for making mini dances in which each participant is an artistic director of, and participant in, their dance. With this preparation we enter into the very origin of this languaging -- the Natural World. Here, through perceptual metaphor with our surround, each participant makes a dance and teaches it to the rest of us. With all these mini dances we create a dance ceremonial in honor of Nature, accompanied with a musician. No previous experience necessary.
Note: The workshop will begin at Preservation Hall and then move to Uncle Tim’s Island, to create and hold the performance there.

Borromeo String Quartet
● Nicholas Kitchen, violin
● Kristopher Tong, violin
● Melissa Reardon, viola
● Yeesun Kim, cello
One of the most important ensembles of our time, the award-winning Borromeo String Quartet has been hailed for its “edge-of-the-seat performances” by The Boston Globe, which called it “simply the best.” A fan favorite and pillar of the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival for many years, the Borromeo is admired and sought after for both its fresh interpretations of the classical music canon and its championing of works by 20th and 21st century composers. The Chicago Tribune praised the Borromeo as “a remarkably accomplished string quartet, not simply for its high technical polish and refined tone, but more importantly for the searching musical insights it brings.” The San Diego Reader described the ensemble’s performance as “a musical experience of luminous beauty.”
Performances in Hyannis and Wellfleet will feature Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet in F Major, Op. 59, No. 1 and Antonín Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 14 in A-flat Major.
Following the performance of The Borromeo: Luminous Beauty at the First Congregational Church of Wellfleet, join the musicians for a private post-concert dinner hosted by a Festival board member at Chapel in the Pines in Eastham. This special opportunity is available for an additional donation of $100. Seating is limited.

JOINT ARTIST STATEMENT: Tell all the Truth but tell it slant.—Emily Dickinson. What shall I love if not the enigma?—Giorgio de Chirico. Slant Rhymes is a photographic conversation between photographer Alex Webb and poet and photographer Rebecca Norris Webb. Selected from photographs taken during the Webbs’ nearly 40-year friendship and later marriage and creative partnership, these photographs are paired—one by Alex, one by Rebecca—to create a series of visual rhymes that talk to one another, often at a slant and in intriguing and revealing ways. “Sometimes we find our photographic slant rhymes share a similar palette or tone or geometry,” writes Alex in his introduction to the accompanying book, Slant Rhymes. “Other times, our paired photographs strike a similar note—often a penchant for surreal or surprising or enigmatic moments—although often in two different keys.”
ARTISTS’ BIOS Together and apart, Magnum photographer Alex Webb and poet and photographer Rebecca Norris Webb have created more than 25 books, including six collaborative books, most notedly Violet Isle: A Duet of Photographs from Cuba, which was shown at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (May 2011-Jan. 2012). They have exhibited widely, including at the Whitney Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and PAAM. The creative couple were married in 1999 at the longtime Wellfleet home of Alex’s parents—sculptor and draftsman Nancy Webb and publisher and editor Bill Webb—a house and studio that Alex and Rebecca have now shared for the past 12 years. Alex’s most recent book is Dislocations, and his upcoming book on U.S. cities, Walking Blues, will be released by Aperture in the fall, with exhibitions in Chicago and New York. Rebecca’s recent hybrid poetry/photo book, A Difficulty Is a Light, is currently part of the exhibition, Photopoetry, at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, and her upcoming book, Glimmerings, a selection of thirty years of her lyrical color photographs, will be released in fall 2027 by Radius Books, with an exhibition in Milan.

MET Opera at WHAT: El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego
Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater
El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego
On May 30, the Metropolitan Opera’s 2025–26 Live in HD season comes to a close with a live transmission of American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s first opera, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth, the story depicts Frida, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell. Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met-premiere staging of Frank’s opera, a “confident, richly imagined score” (The New Yorker) that “bursts with color and fresh individuality” (Los Angeles Times). The vibrant new production, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker. This live cinema transmission is part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, bringing opera to movie theaters across the globe.

From the decks of boats offshore to food banks and pantries, fishing captains to fish processors and chowder makers, this inspirational tale explores how a community responds to a deep crisis, a case study in how people can come together to support, help, and feed each other.

The Narrow Land - Free Film Screening
WHAT
The Narrow Land examines both the mythology and reality of Cape Cod, seeking to unravel the difficult questions that face the coastal community today as it confronts a barrage of overtourism and a subsequent housing crisis that has left locals scrambling to keep their feet planted in the sand. Weaving a personal chronicle of childhood on Cape Cod with the voices of local artists, fishermen, and hospitality workers, the film channels the eerie realities of small town America, posing new questions about identity and memory.
Jaiden Ramona van Bork (she/her) grew up on Cape Cod and will graduate from Brandeis University’s Film, Television, and Interactive Media program in May of 2026. As a journalist, she has written for publications like Provincetown Magazine and Brookline.News, in addition to a brief stint as editor-in-chief of The Truro Tent, a newspaper which she developed for Payomet Performing Arts Center. Her work in film routinely focuses on overlooked groups, forgotten places, and the making of myth in American culture. You can find more from Jaiden at jaidenvanbork.com.
