Remembering Good Harbor Beach - a play by Debbie Wiess
Summer 1923 would be a pivotal one for Josephine Nivison and Edward Hopper. That was when they would meet and start to court when they came to Gloucester to paint. And it was in Gloucester when creating their art that Jo urged Ed to use watercolors to capture the light there, setting him at last on the path to become the iconic 20th Century American Realist painter we know today. Remembering Good Harbor Beach takes you from this first summer in Gloucester to 16 years later at the Hoppers' summer home in Truro, as it delves into the complicated relationship of this artist couple.
A staged reading of the play featuring local actors Jarice Hanson and John Dennis Anderson will be followed by a discussion on the subject.
