First Day Hike: The Gut to Herring River Overlook Trail

This is an out and back 2-mile, 2-hour walk planned by Wellfleet Conservation Trust to feature their Herring River Overlook land and trail, which is rolling dirt paths. The walk includes a brief road section, including crossing the temporary bridge on Chequessett Neck Road where the water control structure for the Herring River Restoration Project is under construction. Friends of Herring River (FHR) continues as the nonprofit partner helping advance this restoration project and a member of FHR Board of Directors will likely co-lead conversation.This is the same walk offered the past few years.
The walk will include short talks on recent research of Native American land use in the area, geology of the area, some information on the restoration project, and the acquisition by the Wellfleet Conservation Trust of the beautiful land overlooking the Herring River.
Free registration is limited to 20 people and will be on a first come/first served basis. Walking shoes or boots are recommended.
