Even though the United States has long called itself a "country of immigrants" and proclaimed that "all men are created equal," it has also always been a country of status, where different people have lived under different laws and held different rights. Xenophobia, deportations, and legal exclusions may be in today's headlines, but these policies have deep roots in our country's history. This talk, presented by historian, author, and activist Avi Chomsky, will examine some of the myths that underlie our national debates about immigration, the particular factors shaping immigration- and opposition to immigration-today, and the ideas and goals behind MAGA anti-immigrant policies.
