Abraham Storer is a landscape painter, whose paintings reflect the diverse places around the world where he has lived. He has an MFA from Boston University and a BA from Brandeis University and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Honors include a Fulbright Fellowship to Israel, and a recent grant from the Wellfleet Cultural Council.
He currently lives in Wellfleet, Massachusetts with his family where he maintains a studio practice and writes about art and culture. This work was created during the pandemic era, between 2019 - 2021. This was a time of personal change and transition, which echoed larger changes and disruptions within the world. It was a period where I moved with my family to Poland, my wife’s native country, after living and working in Israel for five years.
Artist Statement:
In these works, I responded to the landscape around where we lived in Southern Poland. My painting practice challenged me to ground myself in my environment and find something personal in a foreign landscape.
Agricultural motifs become spiritual metaphors. To me, these paintings serve as reminders of the beauty found in transitory states - the places briefly framed, captured and in focus, as the eternal beckons and peaks through the cracks of our shifting experiences.
