Powers Landing - Wellfleet
Join us on July 12th for a very special shellfish farm tour in collaboration with the Wellfleet Historical Society and Wampanoag native Marcus Hendricks. While walking out onto a local Wellfleet shellfish farm, participants will engage in conversation about historical and contemporary shellfishing practices, the cultural significance of Wampum and quahogs, shellfishing and the relationship to the land, and the sustainability and reverence for the ecology and natural aquaculture systems in our community.
Tours are $25 per person. Children under 12 are free. Attendance is limited to 25 people, so advance registration is required. Boots or shoes that can get wet are essential! Please, no sandals or flip-flops. Shellfish shells are very sharp and could cut bare feet!
IMPORTANT: Some farms require a fair amount of walking on uneven sand to access the site. Please use your discretion in determining if this activity fits your physical capabilities. Reach out to bod@wellfleetspat.org with any questions.
Please keep in mind that there are no permanent facilities at the grant locations, but in some cases, portable restrooms are nearby. Public restrooms are located at the Harbormasters Building on the Pier and at Wellfleet Town Hall.
All participants (or guardians) will be required to sign a waiver at the outset of each grant tour.
