  • Wellfleet, MA United States (map)

Wellfleet SPAT

Various times for tours are offered throughout the day. The time of the tour is chosen at registration. Additional information, such as tour location, will be provided after registration.

Do you know how shellfish are grown and harvested? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a shellfishermen? Tour a working shellfish farm and learn firsthand what is involved in shellfish aquaculture.

SPAT will host a series of farm tours this summer. Participants will wade out to a working aquaculture site and learn how shellfish are cultivated in local waters. Visitors will see various species of shellfish in many different stages of growth.

Tours are $25 per person. Children under 12 are free.  Attendance is limited to 25 people, so advance registration is required. Boots or shoes that can get wet are essential! Please, no sandals or flip-flops. Shellfish shells are very sharp and could cut bare feet!

IMPORTANT: Some farms require a fair amount of walking on uneven sand to access the site. Please use your discretion in determining if this activity fits your physical capabilities. Reach out to bod@wellfleetspat.org with any questions.

Please keep in mind that there are no permanent facilities at the grant locations, but in some cases, portable restrooms are nearby. Public restrooms are located at the Harbormasters Building on the Pier and at Wellfleet Town Hall.

All participants (or guardians) will be required to sign a waiver at the outset of each grant tour.
