Wellfleet: A World Epicenter for Marine Mammal Strandings with David Aronow and Gary Kreamer

The shape of Cape Cod and Wellfleet Harbor, along with sandbars and tidal extremes over shallow mud flats, makes Wellfleet a global hotspot for marine mammal strandings. The creatures find themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time, and they get stuck!

This year the Wellfleet Historical Society and Museum created an exhibit exploring Wellfleet's relationship to our marine mammal neighbors. Initially focused on slaughtering these creatures for oil, food, corset stays, toys, etc., the relationship has evolved to one of respect, admiring, caring and rescue. This history is told on five large banners of photos, stories, linked readings, and even a song! Join exhibit creators David Aronow and Gary Kreamer for a presentation welcoming the exhibit to the library for a pop-up display.
