Wellfleet Historical Society at the Wellfleet Library
In 1763, everything was going Wellfleet's way. Leading townsmen had just returned from serving in the Seven Years’ War, and Wellfleet had finally split from Eastham. The population was growing rapidly as was prosperity. Yet, within ten years, it was all crumbling under the weight of England's tyranny. Follow the lives of Wellfleet 's citizens as they protected their coastline, marched to the aid of others and took to the ocean against the mightiest sea power the world had ever known.
This talk challenges conflicting presumptions about Wellfleet's investment in freedom, their willingness to fight, and their motivations to privateering.
