Wellfleet Adult Community Center Event
The Friends of the Council on Aging volunteers lead walks every Saturday at 9:30 for an easy to moderate walk of approximately one hour or one to two miles.
Saturday, June 3:
Indian Neck/Field Point Area Walk:
Distance: 1.3 +/- miles.
Terrain: Includes several hills; a sandy, downhill path with some
exposed tree roots; a gravel path; sand, and paved roads. Difficulty: Moderate to challenging. Walking sticks or canes are helpful on some paths. The walk will take you on paved roads with little vehicular travel to a somewhat hidden path leading to an unpaved road, then down some steps to a beach with a view of Great Island across the harbor.
Continue walking on a dirt road along a marshy area to return to the parking area. If desired, the walk can be extended a short distance to a road abutting the Fox Island Wildlife Management Area. Directions: From Rt. 6 turn onto Cove Road (street where you turn to get to Dunkin' Donuts). Follow Cove Road to stop sign. The road then becomes Indian Neck Road. After a short distance make a left onto King Phillip Road. (There is no right turn at this location.) Continue on King Phillip and make the first (and only) left onto Anawan Road. A few cars can park on Anawan right after the turn. If more parking is needed continue on Anawan (it curves to the right) and park near the telephone pole. In either case you will have to park on some vegetation in order to leave room for cars to pass. You can use 50 Anawan for GPS purposes. When you have parked, assemble at the corner of King Phillip Road and Anawan Road.
