Women in Science: Humpback Whales of the Gulf of Maine and Beyond with Bekah Lane

  • Wellfleet Public Library 55 W Main Street Wellfleet, MA, 02667 United States (map)

Wellfleet Public Library

Join us for an afternoon of science and storytelling as we dive into the world of humpback whales! Researcher Bekah Lane will share how scientists at the Center for Coastal Studies track the life histories of these gentle giants, what drones can tell us about their health, and how studying their threats can help protect them. Along the way, Bekah will also share her own journey into marine science - including the special memories and challenging lessons that have shaped her career.

Bekah Lane (she/her) grew up in Wichita, Kansas, where she spent many childhood summers reading books about whales, dolphins, and porpoises at her grad school to study ship strike risk to humpback whales, and quickly found herself living her lifelong dream. She is now a Research Associate at the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown, where she assists with all aspects of fieldwork and data analysis for projects in the Humpback Whale Studies program.
