How can our own mortality intorm creative work? In this talk, reading, and workshop, author Lisa C. Taylor will read and discuss The Shape of What Remains, her novel that is the story of one woman's journey after loss. Mortality for a writer is always present-looking in the window or darting across the road in front of us. Does the awareness of death make our writing more alive? Are there ways to write about death without just focusing on loss and grief? Stories and novels that mention death are, in a sense, stories of life at its most visceral, acutely aware state.
They can also be stories of celebration. Bring something to write with for one short writing activity. Lisa will read some excerpts from her debut novel and answer any questions. This is an interactive event.
Lisa C. Taylor is the author of three collections of poetry, two collections of short fiction, and her 2025 novel lhe Shape of What Remains.
