ARTIST STATEMENT
The larger works in this exhibition were made in response to a 2014 request by the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies to fill a temporary and threatened art space on Commercial Street with a statement about the effects of climate change. The smaller framed pieces are in response to my own reactions to being a woman and an artist based outside New York in the early 1990’s. My whole body of work tends to be about those things that get my attention, like injustice, the treatment of migrants and women, the lack of affordable housing. This work speaks to what it must feel like to be a creature in the larger ocean as it rises and what it does feel like to be a woman and an outsider, not in power.
