Vernal pools are unique wildlife habitats best known for the amphibians and invertebrate animals that use them to breed. Vernal pools, also known as ephemeral pools, autumnal pools, and temporary woodland ponds, typically fill with water in the autumn or winter due to rainfall and rising groundwater and remain ponded through the spring and into summer. It is an essential seasonal habitat for many, species from salamanders to wood frogs and many other species. Join Joy Marzolf from the Joys of Nature and learn about these seasonal pools and the many creatures that might inhabit them during the year.
Joy Marzolf loves to share her knowledge about wildlife, wildlife photography, and nature in general. In addition to a BA in Biology, she has been doing a variety of animal-related education programs in her professional life for over 20 years. One of her favorite things to do is break people's misconceptions about many animals that people fear, such as predators, including sharks, reptiles and spiders.
