Trios 4 Four - Piano Trios of Mendelssohn and Shostakovich

Wellfleet Preservation Hall

Manhattan-based pianists Steven Mann and Ray Wong join Cape Symphony musicians Heather Goodchild Wade (violin) and Elizabeth Schultze ('cello) for a performance of two of history's best piano trios. Mendelssohn's Piano Trio #1, written the year the composer turned 30, is widely considered one of his greatest chamber works. Shostakovich's Piano Trio #2 is a masterpiece typical of Shostakovich; a work that reflects the pressures of a composer's life under Stalin's regime and one that incorporates ideas on life and death and elements of Russian and Jewish folk music. Between the two trios, Ray and Steve will present Paul Dukas' L'apprenti sorcier (Sorcerer's Apprentice) for 1 piano, 4 hands, a transcription from the original symphonic tone poem of 1897. Based on Goethe's poem by the same name, this piece is Dukas' most performed work and is widely recognized due to its inclusion in Disney's Fantasia. Don't miss this performance, it will be an afternoon to remember!

Argentine Jazz by Dario Acosta Teich Quartet

Wellfleet Preservation Hall

Argentine guitarist, composer, and bandleader Dario Acosta Teich makes music that merges contemporary jazz and Argentine folk. Like his homeland, his new album FOLKLORE extends from the Afro-Latin candombe of Rio de la Plata through the chacarera of the gauchos to Andean huayno using improvisation and experimental jazz to reconcile these sounds and a keen longing for home.

Acosta Teich has never been satisfied to simply transmit folk songs or styles; he uses his extensive composition training to open them up. He lets his fellow players bring their own languages to the table, and the result sounds like it could only happen in New York.

Directed by Dario Acosta Teich (guitar, vocals), musicians also include Fernando Huergo (bass), Stephen Langone (drums) and Yulia Musayelyan (flute).

"A remarkable representative of Argentine Music." - Pagina12

"Unleashing a chayita, a zamba, revealing joy, melancholy, vitality...His guitar is resourceful, decisive. An embrace of music and talent." - La Gaceta
